Enrolment information
Students are required to meet participation requirements in this unit. Attendance is compulsory. For Session 3, 2021 all students (Gold Coast and online) must attend an online residential running from Wednesday 17 November to Saturday 20 November (week 3), 8.30am to 4.30pm each day.
Learning outcomes
Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.
On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
explain the principles of and strategies for effective communication in social work practice with a wide range of client groups, including people from culturally diverse backgrounds
demonstrate effective communication skills in a simulated social work context, including an ability to communicate cross-culturally
critically analyse different approaches to social work practice with individuals, including social casework, case management and counselling
demonstrate skills in assessment, including bio-psycho-social and risk assessment.
