Unit description

This unit enables students to develop skills and knowledge about the organisational context of social work practice, and assists them to become ethical, reflective and strategic organisational operators.  Students will examine the constraints organisations place on social work’s professional agenda, as well as the opportunities to promote social justice through organisational practice. They will also critically reflect on the potential for social workers to contribute to organisational change initiatives, to promote collaborative interdisciplinary practice, and to improve the experience and participation of service users in human service organisations.

Learning outcomes

draw upon multiple organisational theory to analyse human service organisations and the scope for social workers to contribute to organisational change

critically reflect on opportunities for promoting ethical practice and accountability in human service organisations

propose strategies to improve the experiences and participation of service users in human service organisations
