Unit description

Develops core skills required for speech pathologists working across the range of practice areas: speech, language, voice, fluency, multi-modal communication, swallowing. Students will use the International Phonetic Alphabet to guide description and transcription of speech. Students will develop knowledge across linguistic disciplines to develop skills in systematic description and analysis of language. Students will practice skills in the context of speakers of Australian English, and other varieties of English, including speakers for whom English is an additional language.

Unit content

Teaching content will be divided across two modules: i) Phonetics; and ii) Linguistics.
