    This unit contains Work Integrated Learning (WIL) that requires students to meet mandatory fit to practice obligations prior to attending. Failure to comply by the fit to practice deadline will result in the cancellation of your WIL and you will not be permitted to continue in this unit. Unit description

Students participate in 96hrs of work integrated learning for up to 12 weeks to demonstrate competence in assessment of, and intervention for, paediatric and /or adult clients presenting with communication and swallowing concerns. Students analyse and discuss the implication of persistent and significant communication disorders in adolescents and adults in terms of educational, employment and social outcomes.

  3. Contemporary issues, assessment and interventions for adolescents and adults with autism
  4. Contemporary issues, assessment and interventions for adolescents and adults with intellectual disabilities
  5. Education, employment and social outcomes for adolescents and adults with communication difficulties
  6. Contemporary issues, assessment and interventions for adolescents and adults with emotional behavioural disorder and mental health

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

analyse persistent speech and language disorders in adolescent and/or adult populations

discuss management of persistent speech and language disorders for adolescent and/or adult populations

demonstrate professional and clinical competence, with minimal support, working with clients in a work integrated learning environment
