Unit description

Students participate in 96hrs of work integrated learning for up to 12 weeks to demonstrate competence in assessment of, and intervention for, paediatric and /or adult clients presenting with communication and swallowing concerns. Students analyse and discuss the implication of pervasive communication delays/disorders in adolescents and adults in terms of educational, employment and social outcomes. 

Unit content

  1. Contemporary issues in adolescents and adults with developmental language disorders
  2. Contemporary issues in adolescents and adults with literacy difficulties
  3. Education, employment and social outcomes for adolescents and adults with communication difficulties
  4. Assessment of adolescent and adult communication 
  5. Intervention for adolescent and adult communication 
  6. Health literacy for adolescents and adults with communication difficulties

Learning outcomes

discuss management of pervasive speech and language delays/disorders for adolescent and/or adult populations

demonstrate professional and clinical competence, with minimal support, working with clients in a work integrated learning environment
