Unit description

Students participate in 96hrs of work integrated learning for up to 12 weeks to demonstrate, with support, competence in assessment of, and intervention for, children with communication concerns. Students apply clinical reasoning, professional and interdisciplinary skills to a range of client presentations from diverse service delivery and care settings.

  3. Principles and approaches for assessment of multimodal communication
  4. Principles and approaches for intervention to support multimodal communication
  5. Assessment and intervention for childhood apraxia of speech
  6. Assessment and intervention for childhood dysarthria

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

describe assessment and analysis approaches for children with diverse communication needs in line with the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health Framework and other models

provide feedback on results of speech pathology assessments to the client and/or significant others, and discuss goals and management options

demonstrate professional and clinical competence, with a moderate level of support, working with clients in a work integrated learning environment
