Unit description

Develops knowledge of service delivery contexts and models including identification of goals and intervention approaches for children with speech sound and/or developmental language disorders and/or literacy disorders. Practices and applies the design, implementation, justification and evaluation of speech and language intervention for children using principles of evidence-based practice and family centred practice at novice-level.

Unit content

  1. Contexts for speech and language intervention with children, including identifying appropriate goals and rationales, and evaluation of outcomes using functional approaches and measures
  2. Phonological intervention approaches 
  3. Motor speech intervention approaches  
  4. Language intervention approaches (preschool)
  5. Language intervention approaches (school aged)
  6. Literacy intervention approaches

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. describe the contexts for speech and language intervention with children, goal identification approaches and rationales, and evaluation of outcomes using functional approaches and measures

construct intervention and outcome measurement approaches for children with speech sound disorders

demonstrate intervention and outcome measurement approaches for children with developmental language disorders and/or literacy concerns
