Unit description

  Major ethical theories are used to resolve contemporary ethical problems in business and society. Sustainability is examined from the personal through to the global level as we explore the potential for business to solve social problems and contribute to the sustainable development goals.  

Unit content

  1. Introduction to ethics, cultural relativism and utilitarian analysis.
  2. Kant’s duty ethics, virtue ethics and managerial ethics.
  3. Environmental ethics and sustainability.
  4. Sustainability and business.
  5. Socially responsible business.
  6. Working towards the sustainable development goals.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. analyse ethical issues using major ethical theory

utilise environmental footprint analysis to examine personal sustainability

discuss the potential for business to solve social problems

apply sustainability and ethical principles towards the goal of responsible business.
