Unit description

In this capstone unit, students will apply their knowledge of neuroaffirmative practices to develop a comprehensive plan for creating a more inclusive environment within a specific setting, such as an organisation, service, or community space. Students will conduct a needs assessment to identify existing attitudes, barriers, and opportunities for  inclusion. They will critically analyse strategies to enhance contributions by neurodivergent individuals and propose a specific change or adaptation that promotes neuroaffirmative experiences. By synthesising practical skills and theoretical knowledge, students will be equipped to champion meaningful, inclusive change in real-world settings.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

design neuroaffirmative practices or services by applying acquired knowledge and skills, fostering inclusive and empowering environments in professional or community contexts

evaluate the needs within a specific setting by assessing existing attitudes, barriers, and opportunities, with the goal of fostering adaptation and promoting inclusive practices

critically evaluate strategies that amplify the strengths and contributions of neurodivergent individuals, focusing on creating inclusive and empowering environments in various professional and community contexts

synthesise acquired knowledge to propose a specific change or adaptation within an organisation, service or practice, aiming to foster and promote a neuroaffirmative environment in a professional or community context
