Unit description

Equips students with conceptual and practical skills in research design and the conduct of behavioural research, including experimental and non-experimental research designs. Students will also be introduced to critical evaluation of evidence, groupwork, data analysis, data interpretation, and communication. Students will gain hands on experience conducting survey research, including formulating research questions, designing a questionnaire, and collecting and analysing data using basic quantitative analyses.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

distinguish between different methods for conducting research based on their relative merits for the investigation of applied behavioural questions

evaluate specific research methods in terms of their likely impact in the community

identify sources of insight regarding important behavioural phenomena from a reading of the research literature and other relevant bodies of information

conduct empirical research and report it in a form suitable for publication.
