Unit description

An introduction to the history, approaches, and roles in an Agile project management environment. This unit will also provide students with an understanding of the most appropriate situations in which to employ Agile practices, the benefits and challenges of Agile, and the growing use of hybrid forms of project management.    

Unit content

Module 1: The history of the development of Agile, including the Agile Manifesto and primary principles and values of Agile.

Module 2: The key differences and similarities between traditional project management approaches and Agile, and the role of complication and complexity.

Module 3: Frameworks that fall under the Agile banner.

Module 4: Implementing and managing Agile projects, and interacting with the PMO and organisational governance.

Module 5: Resourcing and measuring Agile.

Module 6: Using Agile in hybridised project management situations.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

Identify the key elements that differentiates Agile from traditional project management approaches, and discuss the benefits and disadvantages of the various methods in order to apply the best approach to a given situation.

Understand principles, values, tools and techniques in order to effectively apply Agile to a project.

Demonstrate understanding of the hybridised way in which Agile and traditional project management approaches are employed.
