Unit description

This unit aims to equip students with the essential methods and tools for effective construction planning and control. Students will learn to apply core techniques, including the bar chart, critical path method, line of balance, and network models, to manage critical project elements such as scheduling, resource allocation, cost estimation, and risk assessment, ensuring efficient project delivery and communication.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

construct and optimise detailed construction schedules using industry-standard software to manage time, dependencies, and milestones in complex project environments.

formulate and justify resource allocation plans that balance labour, materials, equipment, and budget constraints.

critique real-world case studies to extract lessons learned, evaluate planning strategies, and assess their impact on project outcomes.

integrate and communicate, through a team activity, planning data to support stakeholder engagement, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement in construction project delivery.
