Unit description

This unit considers the fundamentals of the construction of high-rise buildings of multi-classification and associated occupational safety legislation and codes of practice. In particular, it covers building foundation and footing, basement construction, superstructure, building enclosure, and associated ground works.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

assess high-rise structural systems and construction methodologies to assess design integrity, buildability, and performance standard compatibility.

formulate and assess safety management plans for high-rise construction projects that cover legislative requirements, site-specific risks, and ethical responsibilities.

develop and analyse a high-rise construction risk register that identifies, categorises, and prioritises technical, operational, and stakeholder risks.

compare and synthesise case studies of high-rise developments to evaluate project delivery strategies, innovation, and lessons learned.
