Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

explain the basic principles of motion, forces, energy, and waves, as applied to kinematics, optics, and mechanics

describe knowledge of two-dimensional kinematics, Newton's laws, and energy conservation to solve industry-related problems

explain how the concepts of forces, energy, and waves drive emerging trends across various fields of engineering

perform experiments on motion, forces, energy, and waves to measure, analyse, and apply basic design concepts in mechanics

analyse the principles of statics and torque in equilibrium and apply them to real-world engineering applications

investigate and solve problems involving the interaction of light, sound, and waves in various engineering contexts.
