Unit description

This unit introduces cardiorespiratory physiotherapy. Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, psychology and pathophysiology is integrated in the management of cardiorespiratory conditions across the lifespan.  This unit focuses on physiotherapy management (assessment, differential diagnosis, intervention, evaluation, documentation, prevention and promotion of health and well-being) of people with cardiac conditions, chest trauma, cardiothoracic and general surgery in the acute care and rehabilitation settings, incorporating exercise prescription. Students will develop and apply clinical reasoning in the person-centred, evidence-based physiotherapy management of people with cardiorespiratory conditions. Cultural capability, risk management and collaborative interprofessional practice in diverse populations will be incorporated.

  3. Physiotherapy treatment techniques for cardiorespiratory function
  4. Physiotherapy management after cardiothoracic and general surgery
  5. Physiotherapy management of cardiac conditions and chest trauma
  6. Health promotion and exercise prescription for cardiovascular conditions

apply person-centred, evidence-based physiotherapy management of people with cardiac and respiratory conditions, chest trauma and post-surgery for optimal client health and well-being, that is collaborative and culturally responsive
