Unit description

Develops knowledge and skills required to support people with disabilities in a workplace through work preparation, job matching, maximising safe and effective performance, understanding related industrial issues, and reviewing skills development and maintenance plans. Students will understand the context of employment support available through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and related Commonwealth, State and non-government organisation (NGO) initiatives, review international research that informs best practice, and develop their expertise with a variety of clients and families from different cultural backgrounds.

Unit content

  1. Open and supported employment opportunities for people with disabilities; evidence based practices maximising preparation and participation
  2. Matching potential employment settings and expectations, and worker interests, skills, and abilities
  3. Establishing employment arrangements; productivity, legal wage transparency, industrial relations, workplace health and safety guidelines, monitoring and reviewing processes; relationship maintenance 
  4. Employment opportunities for people with disabilities; identifying and building relationships with potential employers, reviewing and documenting industry trends, evaluating vacancies for employee relevance and potential adaptation
  5. Person centred approaches to assist employee skill development and to create ongoing maintenance and adaptation plans
  6. Implementation and maintenance of skills development/maintenance plans
