Unit description

Synthesises knowledge of contemporary talking therapies used to support people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Students will critically appraise adjustments required to the therapeutic approaches to engage and meaningfully communicate with people with ASD.

Unit content

  1. Talking therapy in relation to information processing and thinking styles characteristic of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  2. Difference between neurotypical and ASD styles of thinking and information processing
  3. The therapeutic approach for people with ASD
  4. Psychotherapeutic approaches to working with people with ASD
  5. Applications for current practice
