Unit description

Provides students with a deep understanding of accepted scope of osteopathic primary health care and contemporary best practice in the context of the Australian health care system. This unit provides knowledge and skills in readiness for independent community health practice. Using case based simulation, exposure to a wide variety of clinical scenarios will advance professional, ethical, safety capabilities.

  1. Regulation of osteopathy and health care in Australia (Ahpra and OBA)
  2. Professional aspects of osteopathy - Osteopathy Australia, report writing guidelines
  3. Professional aspects of osteopathy - finding work, finances and taxation, contracts
  4. Simulated osteopathic practice - integrated interventions
  5. Simulated osteopathic practice - critique integrated interventions
  6. Simulated osteopathic practice - develop and implement own integrated interventions

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

demonstrate advanced clinical understanding of body systems for safe and effective osteopathic management at a level appropriate for independent osteopathic practice

develop, explain and justify osteopathic management plans

demonstrate understanding of the legal, professional, ethical standards, codes and guidelines of osteopathic practice and health care in Australia

demonstrate an advanced understanding of professional osteopathic practice
