Unit description

Provides opportunities for students to consolidate their learning on management and leadership concepts by further exploring how leadership and management theories apply to the nurse's role. Learning emphasises the development of personal leadership strategies in preparation for graduate practice.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

analyse the major models of care management and leadership

judge and apply professional and therapeutic communication skills to nursing leadership and care management

critique the concepts of delegation, change management and conflict resolution management strategies

demonstrate leadership concepts, skills and decision making required in the provision of quality nursing care, healthcare team coordination, and the accountability for care delivery in a variety of settings.
