Unit description

Explores nursing responses to changes in health status. This is the second in a series of four units. Through case-based learning students will build upon and apply knowledge and skills related to chronic illness and disability. Practice in nursing laboratory sessions and simulated rehearsal prepares students for professional experience placement.

  • Principles of intravenous medication administration
  • Chronic central nervous system conditions
  • Chronic skin conditions
  • Pharmaco-therapeutics and technologies in the management of chronic nervous system conditions
  • Chronic wound assessment and management
  • Pharmaco-therapeutics and other products used in the care of skin and wounds
  • Pain theory
  • Pharmacological concepts in pain management
  • Introduction to palliative care
  • Pharmaco-therapeutics and technologies in palliative care
  • Grief, mourning and loss
