Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. 1 Examine your own knowledge, attitudes and skills development to identify and respond appropriately to your own strengths, limitations and deficiencies for achieving competency in the professional role of a midwife
2 Effectively use available resources and programs to plan for and participate in ongoing personal and professional development including preparing for employment as a registered midwife.
3 Critically discuss the structure and function of the local, state and national governance of maternity services as they affect midwifery care provision
4 Critically review the roles and relationships of the various categories of maternity staff and their managers
5 Demonstrate high level analytical skills in accessing, interpreting and talking about evidence to inform clinical decision-making
6 Discuss interventions that appear unnecessary for the woman and negotiate a collaborative plan with the maternity team and the woman
7 Plan and participate in clinical audits and other quality improvement programs
