Unit description

Provides a holistic perspective on the role of the midwife in relation to working with the woman and her partner across the childbearing continuum for the well woman and baby. A holistic understanding of fetal health and wellbeing and neonatal adaption will be presented.

Unit content

  • The psychophysiological responses to preconception and conception
  • The psychophysiological responses to (normal) pregnancy and growing healthy babies
  • Midwifery care for the well woman and her fetus(es)/baby(ies) during the antenatal period
  • The psychophysiological responses to labour and birth
  • Midwifery care for the well woman and her fetus/baby during labour and birth
  • Medications
