Unit description

Provides students with a range of historical, cross-cultural and indigenous perspectives relating to the development of global music cultures. It examines the roles of music within different societies, and promotes an understanding of the dynamics of global musical cultures through the development of research frameworks for cross-cultural musical comparisons.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. identify and discuss prominent stylistic features of a variety of musical examples from different musical cultures

analyse a range of historical and cross-cultural perspectives relating to the international circulation of music in the 20th and 21st century

analyse contemporary issues relating to the global music 'industry'

research and reflect on aspects of global music.
