The content and assessment for this unit draws on ethnomusicological concepts introduced in MUSC1009 - Sounds, Styles and Cultures. It is recommended that students complete MUSC1009 - Sounds, Styles and Cultures prior to enrolling in this unit.
Learning outcomes
Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
identify and discuss prominent stylistic features of a variety of musical examples from different musical cultures
analyse a range of historical and cross-cultural perspectives relating to the international circulation of music in the 20th and 21st century
analyse contemporary issues relating to the global music 'industry'
research and reflect on aspects of global music.
