Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

demonstrate knowledge of the common mental health issues experienced by women during the childbearing continuum and the first year after birth

examine the midwife's role in screening, care, and support when working with women and their families experiencing mental health issues during the perinatal period

discuss the cultural, contextual, personal, biological and interpersonal factors that contribute to mental illness

identify the impact working with women, and their families, experiencing perinatal mental health issues can have on the midwife
