Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.
On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
discuss the history of midwifery and factors that impact upon the midwife’s ability to provide woman-centred care
define the principles and philosophy of contemporary midwifery from a feminist perspective including scope of practice
identify the legal, ethical and professional responsibilities underpinning the role of the midwife, including critical thinking, clinical reasoning and decision-making
demonstrate the principles of communication and reflection within an academic setting
demonstrate basic skills for practice including proficiency in basic numeracy.
