Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

apply relevant governing equations to solve thermo-fluid-related problems

demonstrate techniques and tools to analyse and evaluate thermo-fluid systems

analyse and predict the performance of various energy systems using thermo-fluid principles

illustrate practical applications related to thermo-fluids and reinforce their connectivity through analysis of engineering systems

describe fluid mechanics principles (fluid properties, Bernoulli’s equation, Reynolds number, continuity equation) and apply them in engineering contexts such as piping infrastructure and open channel flow

examine various heat transfer mechanisms (conduction, convection, and radiation) and apply them within an engineering context such as a heat exchanger or an oven.
