Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

identify and apply fundamental dynamics, kinematics, and kinetics concepts to engineering systems within defined industry-relevant settings

evaluate and creatively apply advanced engineering methods, techniques, tools and resources to analyse and design solutions to a complex problem related to engineering dynamics

select, define, successfully complete and communicate the outcomes from a complex project related to engineering dynamics

self-assess conduct and performance as a professional engineer in contributing to the successful completion of a complex project related to engineering dynamics

analyse the motion of particles in one and two dimensions using kinematic equations and graphical representations, and apply Newton’s laws to solve engineering problems.

analyse engineering scenarios by utilising work-energy and impulse-momentum concepts, and apply kinematic principles to rigid bodies, using, absolute and relative motion analysis, including the instantaneous centre of zero velocity

identify the fundamental principles of vibrations and apply the concepts of moment of inertia, equations of motion, and energy and momentum methods to analyse the kinetics of rigid bodies.
