Unit description

Introduces students to the skills and concepts essential to the craft of audio storytelling as practiced in the fields of radio and podcasting. Learning activities and assessment emphasise practical skill development including interviewing, program planning, scriptwriting for audio, sound design, audio editing, and program distribution. Students will produce an engaging short audio-based narrative project.

Module 1:  Writing and Recording Crafted Audio

Module 2:  Interviews and Presenting

Module 3:  Sound Design and Using Digital Audio Workstations

Module 4:  Multitrack Editing, Creating Sound Effects and Sourcing Music

Module 5:  Mixing a Multitrack Edit

Module 6:  Pitching and Publication

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

demonstrate an understanding of audio storytelling through radio and podcast formats and genres, production methods, audience development and program distribution.

demonstrate competency in operating digital audio production equipment including microphones, recording devices and editing software.

apply knowledge and understanding about audio storytelling production and sound design to creatively and competently produce audio-based narrative content.

demonstrate professionalism in critically and constructively appraising self and peers on a production.
