Unit description

Introduces students to the skills and concepts essential to the craft of audio storytelling as practiced in the fields of radio and podcasting. This unit emphasises practical skill development in radio and podcast production including interviewing, program planning, audio editing, writing for audio, radio journalism and podcast genres. Students will develop an awareness of sound design as a narrative tool, and will work to produce a range of engaging audio-based narrative media works.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

demonstrate an understanding of radio and podcast formats and genres, production methods, audience development and program distribution.

demonstrate competency in operating digital audio production equipment including microphones, digital recording devices and digital editing software

apply knowledge and understanding about radio and podcast program production and sound design to creatively and competently produce audio-based narrative content

demonstrate professionalism in critically and constructively appraising self and peers.

apply professional standards for collaborating in a team on an audio-based media project.
