Unit description

Examines the theory and applications of conflict resolution and alternative dispute resolution. Students will be required to demonstrate a thorough understanding of the major theories and approaches to mediation, conflict, negotiation, resolution and reconciliation.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

outline the major approaches to conflict resolution;

determine which method of dispute resolution is appropriate to selected types of conflict situations;

recognise and apply a number of strategies for overcoming negotiation barriers;

demonstrate the basic skills of a mediator;

demonstrate the ethical and legal requirements of a mediator.
