Unit description

Students will produce an original scholarly written work which demonstrates application of advanced independent research skills. The work will create an original contribution to the field of legal knowledge and be presented in an appropriate form. This will be achieved through identification of a legal problem with a social or philosophical issue worthy of investigation, establishing an hypothesis for exploration and presenting consequential outcomes in an advanced academic format.

Module 1: Honours dissertation: Planning and conducting the research project

Module 2: Aligning Research Question, thesis structure and final Abstract

Module 3: Stand and deliver: 30-minute WIP presentations on advanced legal research skills and independent research issues for supervisor feedback

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

apply advanced skills and independent research to complex legal issues to formulate an alternate approach in relation to specific legal issues and problems

design and produce a research project that applies effective and appropriate research principles and methods

create an original contribution to the field of legal knowledge and present the results of advanced legal research and in an appropriate scholarly written form.
