Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

demonstrate knowledge of the philosophical basis of the Australian ‘welfare state’, of the link between the taxation and the welfare systems, and of how the federal government manages the economy

demonstrate an ability to identify and assist a welfare client with their problems by providing the appropriate referrals and explaining the relevant laws, policies and practices

identify and apply a range of strategies that can assist in overcoming the barriers to accessing justice

identify and define the responsibilities and obligations of those working in the welfare field in a legal and paralegal capacity.
