Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

describe the way in which environmental planning instruments are made

demonstrate an understanding of the application of environmental planning instruments to an existing or proposed development on an area of land

critically evaluate the existing system of planning and emerging challenges

demonstrate knowledge of the constitution and structure of local government

analyse and apply in any given factual situation the law with respect to the processes of local government decision-making

evaluate the process of obtaining approval for an activity from local government

effectively conduct legal research, critical analysis and the written presentation of research and argument.
