    This is an intensive unit taught over 4 days in the first week of session. Intensive classes are delivered at the Gold Coast campus from 4 July to 7 July 2018. Class times and room details will be provided on the learning site. Students must be able to commit to the delivery mode before enrolling in this unit.

Unit description

Introduces students to Global Legal Pluralism, an approach to law that seeks to understand the international and transnational legal system by expanding the range of what counts as law and considering how legal, quasi-legal and governmental systems might best manage the interaction among multiple law-making communities.

Topic 1: An Introduction to Global Legal Pluralism

Topic 2: An Introduction to the law of jurisdiction

Topic 3: An Introduction to the law of choice-of-law

Topic 4: An Introduction to the law of recognition of judgments

Topic 5: Case studies in non-state legal orders

Topic 6: Global Legal Pluralism as a normative project
