Unit description

Exposes students to experiences in practice within a legal office environment, involving hands on involvement in the conduct of client matters. These experiences will be analysed with support from teaching staff to enable students to reflect on the role of legal practitioners and the legal system within society.

1 Under the supervision of a legal practitioner: a) use appropriate professional behaviour when delivering legal services to real clients b) Apply the work practices, procedures and policies of the law placement provider c) Demonstrate a range of professional activities in the context of legal interviewing, advising, advocating, writing, drafting and negotiation.
2 Evaluate the role of lawyers in contemporary Australian society and the competing demands of professional standards, ethical rules, client expectations, and personal, political and other values.
3 Evaluate the meaning of professionalism and the ethics, skills, attitudes and responsibilities associated with it, and
4 Reflect upon their understanding of professionalism within the legal profession.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
