Unit description

Provides a managerial approach to the use of information and information systems in organisations.  Students explore the use of information and information systems as a means of achieving competitive advantage by planning, developing, implementing and evaluating information systems from a managerial perspective, taking into account social, ethical and global factors.

Unit content

This unit has six modules:

1. Introduction to the hospitality information system and technology

2. Restaurant and lodging technology systems

3. Guest centric technologies

4. Project management and data mining in hospitality

5. Automation and robotics in the hospitality industry

6. Generative artificial intelligence in the hospitality industry

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

demonstrate knowledge of information systems in the hospitality industry

identify and critically analyse the role of information technology in hotel management decision making

demonstrate the capability to design and propose a digital information system to support hospitality management decision making

demonstrate the knowledge and skills to reflect upon the challenges of implementing digital information systems to drive enhanced decision making.
