Unit description

Introduces students to the principles and practices of human resources management in the hospitality industry.  Students focus on the nature of work in hospitality and how that shapes the diverse pool of potential employees for the industry and how best to manage the employment life-cycle: recruit, induct, train, support, promote and terminate staff.

  1. Introduction the key concepts of HRM
  2. Stage One of the HRM cycle: Obtaining effective human talent
  3. Stage Two of the HRM cycle: Maintaining and developing human talent-planning and development
  4. Stage Three of the HRM cycle: Maintaining and developing human talent-employee benefits and celebrating success
  5. Stage Four of the HRM cycle: Maintaining and developing human talent-performance management systems
  6. Managing effective employee relations and effectively managing a diverse workplace

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. demonstrate the knowledge and skills to reflect upon the challenges of recruiting, retaining and developing talent.
