Unit description

Introduces students to the convention, events, meetings and exhibition, festivals and special events industry.  Students focus on the motives, stakeholders, resources and processes involved in staging these events and their commercial, social and political dimensions.

  1. Introduction to meetings, expositions, events and conventions (MEEC)
  2. Strategic planning in meetings, expositions, events and conventions
  3. Venues, facilities, services and catering planning
  4. Financial and marketing planning
  5. Legal, risk and OHS management for MEEC
  6. International aspects of MEEC and sustainable meetings and events

Learning outcomes

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

describe the various types of conventions and events and the key stakeholders

identify and analyse the complementary and competing interests of the key stakeholders

develop and propose a convention or event that meets the diverse needs of stakeholders

analyse the challenges of staging a convention or event and how these challenges are managed through self-reflection.
