Unit description

This unit focuses on the underlying concepts of science essential for success in health studies. Students explore the nature of science as it relates to health and apply analytical and quantitative skills to a range of health-related contexts. Students learn to use scientific language to communicate processes and concepts. Learning skills specific for the health sciences are developed.

  1. Introduction to the scientific method and evidence-based practice
  2. Introduction to health science data and chemistry
  3. Chemical bonds, pH & buffers
  4. Introduction to organ systems, cells, homeostasis, and the nervous system
  5. Introduction to the cardiovascular and respiratory systems 
  6. Introduction to the musculoskeletal system and movement

Learning outcomes
