Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. 1 understand the cognitive/mental processes that affect learning and functional performance
2 identify and describe characteristics of cognitive impairments impacting on the occupational performance in children and adults with neurological, developmental, learning or mental health disorders. These may include TBI, Dementia, Autism, Intellectual Impairment, Downs Syndrome
3 develop evidence based intervention principles and strategies that include those used by a range of professionals as well as those specific to occupational therapists: cognitive based interventions, psycho-education, family interventions, early intervention, rehabilitation, relapse prevention and mental health promotion
4 design and implement occupational therapy programs that are client-centred and occupation-embedded to address the impact of cognitive impairment on everyday task performance for people with impairments and their families
5 critically analyse major theoretical frameworks that have shaped occupational therapy assessment and intervention in this area of practice
6 analyse and report how perceptual deficits impact task performance in individuals with traumatic brain injury
7 identify community resources available to assist clients with cognitive impairments and their families.
