    It is expected that students who enrol in this unit have the research, study and written expression skills necessary to successfully undertake a unit of study at Bachelors level.

Unit description

Introduces students to the profession of occupational therapy, including: Values and beliefs, philosophical bases, foundational concepts, models and scope of current occupational therapy practice. Understanding humans as occupational beings and the importance of occupation to health will also be introduced. Fieldwork will focus on the development of professional behaviours.

Topic 3 Humans as occupational beings
Topic 4 Relationship between occupations and health
Topic 5 The World Health Organization and other perspectives on health, well being and disease
Topic 6 Foundational concepts of occupation
Topic 7 Key constructs of occupational therapy models of practice
Topic 8 Scope of current occupational therapy practice
Topic 9 Professional behaviours which are consistent with the conduct standards of Occupational Therapy
Topic 10 Preparing for success in professional practice and fieldwork learning
Topic 11 Research, written expression and referencing in scholarly written work
