  • Enrolment information

    Compulsory attendance requirements at practical, tutorials and internal and external clinic placements. Rostered placements may extend beyond normal teaching session times. It is also expected that students will purchase physical examination equipment. Mandatory pre-placement requirements must be met as detailed on the clinical placements website via MySCU. Uniform needs to be purchased and student clinical ID badge must be worn during attendance at clinical placements.

Unit description

Introduces and develops the clinical skills of physical examination and case taking required in holistic health assessment. Emphasis is on cue recognition of physical signs and symptoms of unwellness and disease. Formulation of management plans for common clinical problems will also be introduced. Learning will be supported by both internal and external supervised clinical placements.

Topic 1: Holistic clinical assessment of the individual
Topic 2: Clinical signs and symptoms of unwellness and disease
Topic 3: Case history taking
Topic 4: Physical examination of specified systems
Topic 5: Clinical assessment issues in certain specialties
Topic 6: Health law pertaining to clinical practice
Topic 7: Professionalism and communication skills in clinical practice
