Unit description

Builds on the unit HLT00274 - Clinical Diagnosis I and continues student development of critical analytic skills, clinical reasoning and safety within clinical practice. Material is presented in a problem-based learning format, with a significant portion embedded within an interactive software package.

Unit content

Topic 1: Integrated clinical problem solving approach to diagnose disorders of the cardiovascular and haematopoietic systems

Topic 2: Integrated clinical problem solving approach to diagnose disorders of the neurologic system

Topic 3: Integrated clinical problem solving approach to diagnose disorders of the musculoskeletal system

Topic 4: Integrated clinical problem solving approach to diagnose disorders of the renal and reproductive systems

Topic 5: Medical investigations - clinical biochemistry, clinical haematology, clinical microbiology, clinical immunology and medical imaging

Topic 6: Selected issues in clinical pharmacology

Topic 7: Safety issues

7 demonstrate safety as a clinician by (i) explaining the limitations of health professionals in clinical practice, (ii) explaining selected issues of clinical pharmacology, and (iii) explaining the appropriate referral procedure for a range of common presentations outside the competence of non-medical health practitioners.
