Unit description

Introduces and develops critical analysis of the themes: World populations - violence - trauma and health. Students will consider human societies, violence in wars, colonisations and natural disasters. Students will also explore the anthropology of violence in relationship to trauma; the trauma in violence and trans-generational aspects of trauma.

Unit content

Topic 1: Inter-and trans-generational transmission of trauma
Topic 2: Different traumatic responses of individuals and world populations
Topic 3: Victim/perpetrator/survivor roles in trans-and intergenerational violence/trauma
Topic 4: The relationship between fragmentation of cultural and spiritual identity, racism, human rights violations and mental illness in Indigenous Australians
Topic 5: Strategies for healing
