Unit description

Integrated Anatomy and Physiology will expand and further develop concepts of Anatomy and Physiology. The purpose of this unit is to provide a more in-depth view of human anatomy and physiology, focusing on the integration of body systems. Students will learn how body systems maintain physiological equilibrium in health and during disturbances

Unit content

  1. The human body’s internal equilibrium and neurophysiology (Integration of cell physiology and signalling, thermodynamics, biophysics and neurophysiology)
  2. The art of movement control and reaction (Integration Skeletal and muscle systems)
  3. The key endocrine responses and the miracle of life (Integration of endocrine and reproductive systems)
  4. The body’s pulse and vital oxygenation (Integration of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems)
  5. The absorption and elimination systems (Integration of Gastrointestinal and renal systems)
  6. The physiology of defence systems (Integration of lymphatic and immunoinflammatory system)

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

apply knowledge of cellular physiology to the processes essential to life

relate anatomy and physiology concepts of the individual systems to their integrated functions

explain how homeostasis of the human body is achieved

apply concepts of integrated human anatomy and physiology to health and homeostatic disturbances
