    There will be a 3 day compulsory residential for all students (Online and On Campus) that will be held on the Lismore campus. Please refer to http://scu.edu.au/timetables for further information on timetables. Students of the unit are expected to participate in lectures and field exercises of the matching undergraduate unit in Forest Operations (FOR00104), and is a requirement to pass this unit.

Unit description

Requires students to consider a complex forest operations scheduling problem and to design a solution that optimises production, costs and safety, using simulation software.

Unit content

Topic 1: Describing complex problems as materials and flows
Topic 2: Introduction to simulation/optimisation software (SIMILE) and computer programming
Topic 3: Data collection and model building
Topic 4: Decision support under changing inputs to complex problems
