Unit description

Introduces students to estate planning including an overview of the estate planning process, regulatory and legal framework, wills and estate administration, taxation, attorneys and guardians, trusts and asset protection, family law, superannuation and death benefits, business succession planning, and other estate planning issues. In this capstone unit, students will develop professional skills by engaging in teacher directed activities and experiences relevant to responsible estate planning and the construction and presentation of a comprehensive Statement of Advice (SOA).

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

demonstrate an understanding of the estate planning process and regulatory and legal framework

identify and evaluate key estate planning areas

recognise types of business structures and critique the functions of business succession planning and its taxation implication

construct and present a comprehensive Statement of Advice (SOA), with a specific focus on estate planning aspects.
