Unit of Study ENV10655 - Coastlines - Diversity, Dynamics and Risks (2020)

Show me unit information for year

Unit Snapshot

  • Enrolment information

Students require a sound knowledge of fundamental geological processes such as rock types, volcanic processes and landscape evolution processes. Students will need some basic skills in accessing web-based maps for interpretation of satellite imagery and to acquire data on wave and wind climates. These skills are obtained by completion of the pre-requisite unit or equivalent experience. The unit is delivered as an online unit, with learning material delivered weekly across Session 3. There will be a four day compulsory residential for all students that will be held on the Lismore campus in December. Please refer to http://scu.edu.au/timetables for further information on timetables.

Learning outcomes and graduate attributes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

GA1: Intellectual rigour, GA2: Creativity, GA3: Ethical practice, GA4: Knowledge of a discipline, GA5: Lifelong learning, GA6: Communication and social skills, GA7: Cultural competence

1 describe the geomorphology of all coastal zones
2 describe the dynamic processes that have shaped the coastal zones
3 illustrate how past sea level events have shaped our coastline and how climate change will potentially affect tomorrow’s coastline
4 indicate scientific techniques used in coastal sciences
5 understand how human activities continue to impact on our coasts.
