Unit description

This industry-focussed professional practice thesis unit guides students through the processes required to plan and initiate an independent research project that will make an original contribution to knowledge in their professional discipline. Students are also required to initiate and commence a focussed research project relevant to their professional discipline. Upon completion of this unit, students will commence and complete ENGN6004, where they will finish the research work started in this unit and write a thesis on the overall research project.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

critically review and evaluate relevant research literature to identify knowledge gaps that could be addressed through a research project.

develop a structured research plan to complete a research project.

apply project management and research implementation skills to operationalise a research plan, including resource acquisition, ethics and governance compliance, and the structured initiation of data collection

clearly communicate, through written and oral approaches, research project methodologies and approaches.
