Learning outcomes
Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.
On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
investigate a range of literary, visual and multimodal texts that provide insights into Aboriginal, multicultural and children’s experiences
explain early language acquisition from 0–5 years and summarise introductory aspects of child development
describe key principles of early reading development and outline the role of digital literacies in contemporary literacy learning
identify and explain evidence-based approaches for teaching and assessing reading in K–6, including phonemic awareness, systematic phonics instruction and strategies for monitoring student progress
